П’ятирічна дівчинка в Діснейленді в Каліфорнії, найщасливіше місце на Землі і шестирічна дівчинка в Україні, в мультяшній єдиноріг прикрашеній піжамі
Sleeping Beauty’s Castle stands guard over the dreams of many young girls, my five-year-old granddaughter being one of them. She loves Disneyland and she loves dressing as Belle of Beauty and the Beast, or one of the other Disney female heroines. She also loves unicorns, has a unicorn doll, a unicorn bedspread, and, I believe, also unicorn pajamas, though they may also be of Elsa from Frozen, another young girl favorite. Her innocent love of all things Disney, and the story of the young girl in Ukraine with cartoon unicorn decorated pajamas, brought tears to my eyes.
Замок Сплячої красуні стоїть на сторожі мрій багатьох молодих дівчат, однією з яких була моя п’ятирічна внучка. Вона любить Діснейленд і любить одягатися як Красуня і Чудовисько або одна з інших героїнь Діснея. Вона також любить єдинорогів, має ляльку-єдинорога, покривало-єдинорога і, я вважаю, також піжаму-єдинорога, хоча вони також можуть бути від Ельзи з Frozen, ще однієї улюбленої молодої дівчини. This evening as I was writing, I received by text a wonderful photo of my granddaughter at the Magic Kingdom at Disneyland, the happiest place on earth. In the photo, she is on top of the anvil from “The Sword in the Stone” trying to pull Excalibur, the sword of King Arthur, out of the stone. She is wearing pink shoes, a pink skirt with a Minnie Mouse near the hem, a pink shirt, and a sparkly red-sequined jacket. She loves being a girly-girl, and her mother, and her other grandparents, totally accommodate her love of beautiful fun clothes. Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in the background is all aglow with deep blue roofs, walls of various shades of blues and pinks and all their mixtures and blendings, and from the high castle widows, bright warm yellow light blazes forth. She is so pretty and alive with all the hope in the world in her beautiful smile, as she tries to pull the sword from the stone – limitless possibilities and an exuberance for life in her heart and tons of happiness besides. She is alive, and as her mother says, experiencing one of the happiest days of her life. I love her very much.
Цього вечора, коли я писав, я отримав текстовим повідомленням чудову фотографію моєї внучки в Чарівному королівстві в Діснейленді, найщасливішому місці на землі. На фото вона знаходиться на вершині ковадла з «Меча в камені», намагаючись витягнути з каменю Екскалібур, меч короля Артура. Вона одягнена в рожеві туфлі, рожеву спідницю з маусом Мінні біля подолу, рожеву сорочку і блискучу куртку з червоними блискітками. Вона любить бути дівчинкою, а її мати, а також інші її дідусь і бабуся повністю задовольняють її любов до красивого веселого одягу. Замок Сплячої красуні на задньому плані весь сяє темно-синіми дахами, стінами різних відтінків синього і рожевого кольорів і всіма їх сумішами і змішуваннями, а з високих вдів замку палахкотить яскраве тепле жовте світло. Вона така гарненька і жива з усією надією на світ у своїй прекрасній посмішці, як намагається витягнути меч з каменя – безмежні можливості і достаток для життя в її серці і тонни щастя до того ж. Вона жива, і, як каже її мати, переживає один з найщасливіших днів у своєму житті. Я її дуже люблю.
And the other little girl – the one in the CNN news report above, the one who the AP in their report stated that when she arrived at the hospital in Mariupol, “Her brown hair was pulled back with a rubber band. Her bloody pyjama pants were decorated with cartoon unicorns.” – she is dead, and her parents, bloodied and wounded, weep, and are now stranded in the unhappiest place on earth – truly right at the center, dead center. Look and behold her cold little body as reported in the same AP report- “left alone in the room, covered by her brightly colored polyester jacket, now spattered with blood.”
А інша маленька дівчинка – та, що в новинному репортажі CNN вище, та, яку AP у своєму репортажі заявила, що коли вона прибула до лікарні в Маріуполі, “її каштанове волосся було відтягнуте гумкою. Її закривавлені піжамні штани були прикрашені мультяшними єдинорогами.” – вона мертва, а її батьки, закривавлені і поранені, плачуть, і тепер застрягли в найнещаснішому місці на землі – воістину прямо в центрі, мертвій точці. Подивіться і подивіться на її холодне тільце, як повідомляється в тому ж звіті AP – “залишилася одна в кімнаті, покрита її яскравою поліефірною курткою, тепер забризкана кров’ю”.
I mourn this little girl, and I find myself with her parents wanting to chant without hope of comprehension, “How can this be? How can this be? Who did this? Who did this? What evil beast destroyed our beautiful little girl?”
Я оплакую цю маленьку дівчинку і опиняюся з її батьками, які хочуть скандувати без надії на розуміння: “Як таке може бути? Як таке може бути? Хто це зробив? Хто це зробив? Який злий звір знищив нашу прекрасну дівчинку?”
