Just fainting she said
Not eaten for a while
Serving dinner at church

Finished, awaiting her own filet mignon
An extra
Sitting high on a stool

Felt faint, hand outstretched

Security camera caught it all
Yes, outstretched arm
Then out
Really whacked head on floor
They said
Ouch

Able to alert security
Outside
On top of the situation
Right away

Pastor’s face
When eyes opened
Others all around

EMTs came, took her
Away
Pastor and others praying

I came to emergency
EKG
Stitches on chin
Smacked it hard
Blood on white blouse
Almost heart shaped
Upon the wide lapel

Nothing serious
Dr. Tom very nice said
Four stitches

Walked out of hospital
Referral to cardiologist in hand
Told to avoid the
Small drops
Of blood
In the hallway from a
Small child
We could hear
Crying
Down one of the halls
Co-pay, yes

At home, she went to bed
Heated cup of tea I left in a hurry
Hand on kitchen sink
The so familiar
Thinking

One day, it will only be one
Coming home, and the other gone
Almost buckled my knees
