Bouquet of Flowers in a Vase

Sister – 06/01/23

…and as she walked into the house from her morning walk, with her steps now slower, not a bit slower, or much slower, but slower, just slower, as now many things were slower.  And as she entered the entrance hall of her, well, substantial home, she paused to stop and consider consciously, her slower steps, the slowing…  Ah…her eyes moved slowly, but not it seemed completely of her will, from beholding the grand entrance room before her, to the bouquet, the flowers, the colors of the huge bouquet beside her of fresh flowers as always, a fixture of this house decreed decades ago, too many to figure exactly now…  And the bouquet, the flowers were beautiful and…fragrant…oh, and always there…but perhaps for her, not always, if even ever…hmm…for her, or to her, not the celebrated attraction, not a distraction, at least to her from her perfume, the signature of her presence, expensive and exquisite which surrounded her, graciously proclaiming her…her…what, she didn’t know, but shrouding…  She stopped in her thoughts…  Shrouding her…as if like a corpse, as one not slow and maybe just tired, but as one… dead and senseless…with no ability to smell and enjoy… And enjoy…the living flowers, and perfume…the expensive and exquisite only applied then to conceal the stench of rot and decay.  And as she watched, two yellow petals fluttered to the floor.  How poetic she thought.  And slow steps took her into the grand entrance ballroom, which seemed now like a mausoleum…not surprisingly.
