…and when she first saw the window, she knew that it was beautiful, even with the fleeting glance and hurried steps past it, more interested in a certain boy, well, at least three, on the high school field trip, than she really was in “art”, and she had already seen enough, and taken enough notes to fake a decent, if not great grade, report on just four objects, pieces, whatever they were, oh, paintings and one sculpture, an impressive array, yes, to demonstrate an intelligent appreciation of a wide range of genres, as Mr. G preached about and wanted and would get, her smile and simple innocent charm, a winner every time. And yet now, almost 14 years later, Jessica in the stroller, her baby brother still on the way, she highly successful, you can always tell by the shoes and she always loved shoes, but now she paused in front of the window, she had searched it out on her own, and, yes, it was still beautiful, but it was different, it was…something more than beautiful, it was…and she paused in her mind, as her feet with the stroller had paused…and…and maybe that was it…it wasn’t different, but she was, for she had stopped, and that was very different, for she rarely stopped, and then after a moment she said, “Oh look, Jessie, how beautiful this is.”
