I Said Before I Die
I said before I die
I wish to spend an afternoon,
A day,
Watching, observing, and beholding,
From a hill,
The passage of clouds, after a storm,
Huge and white and immense in silent beauty.
For this would thrill my heart
And deeply satisfy my soul.
And later, a month or more, a year,
My friend gave me a book, a birthday gift,
A small book,
Every page with a photo
Of clouds within the sky.
He mocked me, yes,
He blessed me, yes,
He said of me how precious.
But, also, yes, I know
He would join me
If the day ever came.
For, yes, his soul
Would behold the clouds
Sitting silently next to me,
My words providing the amusement
Necessary to grant him the time
He would take to be with me,
My friend,
Rick

I remember that day! To many cloud-filled days to come!
